The name comes from the term "spacing out". The inspiration stemmed from moments where you are doing nothing, maybe lying in bed before going to sleep, and you are spacing out in your mind wondering about something random. This platform gives users the space (<- see what we did there?) to explore random thoughts ideas, and see if anyone else might be wondering about the same things.
It depends. We only keep the last 5,000 messages of each chat, so if it's a popular chat room, the messages won't last long! On top of that, we automatically delete all messages that are older than a year, even if there are fewer than 5,000 messages.
The goal of the platform isn't really to be a forum loaded with information. Instead, the primary focus is to see if anyone out there is thinking similarly and can share feelings, thoughts, or ideas at the same time that you are. Our hope is that you will realize you are not alone.
Unfortunately, there is no way to recover your username once you have lost it. This is the price to pay for the anonymity and the focus on password-less communication. This aligns with our goal to make the platform a place to express yourself and learn about random topics, not keep consistent conversations with known people or users.
Unfortunately, there is no way to do this. This would require us to store some sort of password or tie your account to you somehow. This would reduce privacy and anonymity, which goes against some of the core principles of Spaceout.
Spaceout prioritizes anonymity. While we obviously need to store messages, we don't store any other sensitive information with these messages that might give away who you are. The users are randomly generated and have nothing to do with you specifically. We want people to feel safe and secure with their thoughts, and not judged in any way.
You can use it any way you want! The inspiration was to see if anyone out there is thinking the same as you, or might have insight or advice regarding anything you are thinking. But you can also tell your friends to join some obscure chat and talk there. Or you can use it meet random people around the world. The choice is yours. Just remember to be safe and don't give sensitive information to strangers!
AI mode allows you to ask a given question to AI. The purpose of this is to support conversation, not to use a private AI agent. The agent won't remember the context from your previous question, so make sure to provide any context again if necessary.
